Book Giveaway: The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K Jemisin

Posted by Simcha 7:30 PM, under | 26 comments

I admit to being baffled by all of the rave reviews of The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, a book that I enjoyed but didn't think was particularly remarkable (see review below). And so I've decided to pass on the book to someone who may appreciate it more then I did (which seems to be everyone).

If you would like the opportunity to provide a new home for my copy of The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, please leave me your email address below. And to make me feel better for going against the majority opinion, tell me about a book that you didn't like but everyone else loved.

This giveaway is open internationally, but you must be a follower to enter (and it's never too late to become one)

I will select the lucky winner on March 1st.

Bonus Points:
+2 if you were already a follower
+1 for Tweeting the contest
+3 for blogging about it

Good luck!

I'm so sorry this didn't rock your world-- hopefully the winner will enjoy it more. Here's hoping! Regardless, I'll lower my expectations...

YES I am a follower. But I follow anonymously, so you won't see my picture in your followers' section.

I would like to give this book a chance... Find out why you hated it, etc.

One book that didn't excite me much, but everyone else seemed to love was Pastwatch by Orson Scott Card. I owned the book, but ended up giving it away. I couldn't get past the first 50 pages. This was a long time ago, so maybe I should give it another chance, but now I'm obsessed with the Sword of Truth series. Next up, taking a break from sci-fi/fantasy for a bit and re-visiting Emma by Jane Austen. ...Or maybe, it will be The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms

Thanks! nunahboop(at)gmail.com

Ok here we go. :)

Thanks for the giveaway. I'm curious to see if I like it a lot or a little. :)

I really didn't enjoy the Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan, and I know that lots of others have given it rave reviews (mine gave it 3.5 stars)

New follower.

Couple books I didn't like despite all the hype: Harry Potter and Twilight.

it's also in my sidebar under the contest list - i don't know if that counts for points.

As for a book I couldn't stand that everyone else seemed to love: Before I Die by Jenny Downham. I absolutely hated it, but it got pretty much nothing but rave reviews!

Figures, my copy should be showing up at my house today. lol.

I will keep your review in mind and have to get with you when I am reading it.

Good luck to you all!

I've been fairly curious about this one. I've seen a lot of buzz about it, but there seems to be the occasional very unimpressed reviewer. Curious to see which side of the fence I'll end up on.

As for books I was unimpressed with, I just finished The Lies of Locke Lamora (my review goes up tomorrow), and I'm a little puzzled as to why everyone went so crazy about it. Sure it was fun, but it had some frustrating problems that I found hard to ignore.

I would love to enter the contest and to answer your anything by Jane Austen. I just can't get into them at all, it's never going to happen.

And started following your blog, too.

As for a book that I didn't like that everybody else did... I know that it's kind of even odds on whether or not a person likes it, but I couldn't stand Twilight, despite the hype. I couldn't even force myself to sit through the whole book.

Hi.

As for a book that I didnt like but everyone else like was Twilight. I couldnt get pass the first chapter. The characterization and the writing was not for me.

OK I can take a hint so I have joined as a Follower !

Please enter me in the giveaway.

I have read bad and good reviews of this book but it seems most of the better SF review sites don't like it.

Since I am curious by nature that immediatly makes me want to read ot myself to make up my own mind but finances make me cautious about spending good money on it.

My hates, well the recebt flood of vampires, especially all the "young and restless" ones.

Thanks

I heard lots of good things about The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards but I didn't like it. I had to stop reading t after about 50 or so pages.

I'm an older follower.

I didn't like The Memory Keeper's Daughter either but immediately handed it to my mother who loved it as I knew she would!
And I frequently scandalise my female friends by admitting, quite brazenly, that I really didn't like The Red Tent.

Hi thank you for the opportunity, I read some reviews about this book and a really interesting to know more of the story, send hugs!
