New Scifi and Fantasy Releases: Week of August 1

Posted by Simcha 7:34 PM, under | 6 comments

August is an exciting month for new releases with Brandon Sanderson's Way of of Kings coming out as well as Brent Weeks's new novel, Black Prism and the much-anticipated Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. Unfortunately it won't be until the end of the month that those particular books will be available, though there are some other new releases that look like they might keep me happily occupied in the meantime.

This week I have my eye on Shades of Milk and Honey by
Mary Robinette Kowal.
In addition to the fact that I just like the title it also sounds like it could be a really fun book, despite the comparisons to Jane Austen (no, I'm not a Jane Austen fan). Plus I've read some good reviews about it, so this book is firmly on my To Be Read list.

There is also a new release from Adrian Tchaikovsky, whose books I've been meaning to read for a while, as well as a new Artemis Fowl from Eon Colfer, and Julie Kagawa's The Iron Daughter.

And as usual, while compiling this list I've come across a couple of interesting titles that I've not yet heard of, including The Savior Machine: A brief collection of weird fiction by Daniel La Ponsie and The Questing Road by Lyn McConchie. While I'm not sure if I will actually get around to reading either of these perhaps you will, in which case please let me know if I should give them a try.

Hope you have a great reading week!

Hmmmm many books out this week. Must say that I'm not a fan of Ed Greenwood's writing. I always had trouble getting through his books. But "The Search" sounds like it will be a good book. Thanks for this list!

Happy reading:)

-Leslie

You can never go wrong with Mercedes Lackey and the Sumpathy for the Devil books sounds good as well.

See, now the last few weeks and now these. And August is another amazing month for books. I am just not going to be able to read them all. I am going to have to lock myself in a room and do nothing but read. Oh, great books! Thanks!

BStearns: I actually haven't read any of the Forgotten Realms books because game tie-ins just don't appeal to me. But I'm glad you found something here that interests you.

Leslie, thanks for stopping by! Yeah, there are a lot of great looking books here and I do hope to read at least some of them.

Ryan: I used to love Mercedes Lackey when I was younger but when I tried one of her books this last year I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to. Maybe I'll have to give a different one a try.

Melissa: I know what you mean. I now have a huge pile of library books to get through and I know there is no way I can actually read all of them, which is very frustrating.
