The end of September is already drawing near, which happened so quickly that I'm having a hard time believing it. I hear this happens as you get older-time passing quicker than it used to- and I'm not sure that I'm enjoying the experience. These days I seem to be measuring time in books and I know that the end of the month is approaching when the list of new releases is longer than usual.
This week there are a number of exciting new releases including a new book from Terry Pratchett, I Shall Wear Midnight, Dreadnought by Cherie Priest and Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews. Dan Wells's second Jon Cleaver book is also out this week, and while I haven't yet read the first book, it's definitely on my list.
But the book I want to read the most, from this week's selection, is The House on Durrow Street by Galen Beckett. It's the sequel to The Magicians and Mrs. Quent, which I had read last month and loved. Unfortunately, though, it's one of the pricier books (which is just my luck), at $14, so it might be a while before I manage to get it. *sigh*
There are a number of other awesome looking books that I am tempted to list here but since I already listed them down below I will try to refrain myself. So take a look and tell me which of these books you plan on adding to your bookshelf.
Hope you have a great reading week!

Twilight Forever Rising
Lena Meydan
Genre:
Publisher: Tor
Release Date: September 28
Darel Ericson of the Dahanavar clan is a rarity among his vampire brethren: he’s an empath, strong enough to occasionally read thought as well as emotion. For centuries, his power has given the Dahanavar a significant advantage against the machinations of the other vampire families, an advantage which makes Darel both a powerful tool and a highly visible target.
Fortunately for Darel, it is more useful for the heads of the other clans to maintain the centuries-long peace between the houses than to remove him. But, the cunning and violent head of the House of Nachterret is tired of the truce, and of hiding his presence in the world. The Nachterret would like nothing more than have free reign over the helpless human cattle upon which they feed.
Darel, and the human woman he loves, become central to the Nachterret’s scheme to plunge the Houses into all out war. Darel is ultimately forced to face the question: is one young woman’s life too high a price to pay for peace?
Mr. Monster (John Cleaver, Bk 2)
Dan Wells
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Publisher: Tor
Release Date: September 28
I killed a demon. I don’t know if it was really, technically a demon, but I do know that he was some kind of monster, with fangs and claws and the whole bit, and he killed a lot of people. So I killed him. I think it was the right thing to do. At least the killing stopped.
Well, it stopped for a while.
In I Am Not a Serial Killer, John Wayne Cleaver saved his town from a murderer even more appalling than the serial killers he obsessively studies.
But it turns out even demons have friends, and the disappearance of one has brought another to Clayton County. Soon there are new victims for John to work on at the mortuary and a new mystery to solve. But John has tasted death, and the dark nature he used as a weapon---the terrifying persona he calls “Mr. Monster”---might now be using him.
No one in Clayton is safe unless John can vanquish two nightmarish adversaries: the unknown demon he must hunt and the inner demon he can never escape.
In this sequel to his brilliant debut, Dan Wells ups the ante with a thriller that is just as gripping and even more intense. He apologizes in advance for the nightmares.

Out of the Dark
David Weber
Genre: Science Fiction
Publisher: Tor
Release Date: September 28
The Galactic Hegemony has been around a long time, and it likes stability--the kind of stability that member species like the aggressive, carnivorous Shongairi tend to disturb. So when the Hegemony Survey Force encountered a world whose so-called "sentients"—"humans," they called themselves—were almost as bad as the Shongairi themselves, it seemed reasonable to use the Shongairi to neutralize them before they could become a second threat to galactic peace. And if the Shongairi took a few knocks in the process, all the better.
Now, Earth is conquered. The Shongairi have arrived in force, and humanity’s cities lie in radioactive ruins. In mere minutes, more than half the human race has died.
Master Sergeant Stephen Buchevsky, who thought he was being rotated home from his latest tour in Afghanistan, finds himself instead prowling the back country of the Balkans, dodging alien patrols and trying to organize scattered survivors without getting killed. And in the southeastern US, firearms instructor and former Marine Dave Dvorak finds himself at the center of a growing network of resistance—putting his extended family at lethal risk, but what else can you do?
On the face of it, Buchevsky’s and Dvorak’s chances look bleak, as do prospects for the rest of the surviving human race. But it may well be that Shongairi and the Hegemony alike have underestimated the inhabitants of that strange planet called Earth…

Publisher: Baen
Release Date: September 28
Having inflicted the smug homes of suburbia with witches and werewolves. Esther Friesner now unleashes the undead to tap a vein of blood and humor, and drain the suburbs dry of both.

But in the suburbs, everyone is polite and respectful of their neighbors’ right to privacy. And if your neighbors happen to have kids selling gift-wrap, magazine subscriptions, cookies, or other school fundraising ploys, and little Emily or Jason happen to come peddling their wares after sundown . . . Who says you have to stay in the city if you want good take-out meals delivered right to your door? There’s no one quite like a vampire for saying, “All of you kids get off of my lawn!” and putting some teeth into it.
The stories in these pages—by Sarah A. Hoyt, K.D. Wentworth, Dave Freer and more, including Esther Friesner herself—will convince the reader that vampires and suburbs go together like wine and cheese, gin and tonic, desperation and housewives, marriage and pre-nups. Two fairy tale retellings of Sleeping Beauty! Although Sevenfold Spell looks a tad more interesting, being told from an unusual point of view. I just got The Magicians and Mrs. Quent this weekend - I hope to get to it soon!
Stephanie: Ooh, I really hope you like it as much as I did!
Oh so many great books and so little time.
You know I've never even started the Xanth series and with 33 books already I'm not sure I ever will. I've heard they are good though, maybe after I'm done with Agatha Christie.
Dreadnought sounds really good as does Dark Harvet.
I have the first book in the Imager series but I haven't read it yet.
Well, I am safe for now. But you did remind me on several books here there are series I want to start that I have not got to yet. :) Thanks for the great list of books.
