Years later, after being thrown out of their house, Gretchen and Ansel find themselves in Live Oak, South Carolina, a place on the verge of becoming a ghost town. They move in with Sophia Kelly, a young and beautiful chocolatier owner who opens not only her home, but her heart to Gretchen and Ansel.

But Gretchen is determined to stop running from witches in the forest, and start fighting back. Alongside Samuel Reynolds, a boy as quick with a gun as he is a sarcastic remark, Gretchen digs deeper into the mystery of not only what the witch is, but how it chooses its victims. We Others: New and Selected Stories
Steven Millhauser
Genre: Short Story Collection
Publisher: Knopf
Release Date: Aug. 23

A magnificent collection from the Pulitzer Prize–winning author: stories from across three decades that showcase his indomitable imagination.

Steven Millhauser’s fiction has consistently, and to dazzling effect, dissolved the boundaries between reality and fantasy, waking life and dreams, the past and the future, darkness and light, love and lust. The stories gathered here unfurl in settings as disparate as nineteenth-century Vienna, a contemporary Connecticut town, the corridors of a monstrous museum, and Thomas Edison’s laboratory, and they are inhabited by a wide-ranging cast of characters, including a knife thrower and teenage boys, ghosts and a cartoon cat and mouse. But all of the stories are united in their unfailing power to surprise and enchant. From the earliest to the stunning, previously unpublished novella-length title story—in which a man who is dead, but not quite gone, reaches out to two lonely women—Millhauser “makes our world turn amazing” (The New York Times Book Review).

With this collection, Steven Millhauser carves out ever more deeply his wondrous place in the American literary canon.

A very perhaps week for me, nothing I would jump at at once

I have an ARC of the Shanara book, but not in a hurry to read it. None of the others seem to grab my attention.

Blodeuedd: Yeah, there's not much that excites me here either

Ryan: A couple of years ago I went through a phase where I was tearing through all the Terry Brooks books that I could get a hold of but that's died down and I've kind of lost interest. After a while all of his books began to feel the same. Though I still think they are great books for those new to fantasy.

I highly recommend This Dark Endeavor - fantastic book! But new-to-me and now something I most desperately want is Skary Childrin. Creepy and strange; just my style!

Melissa: I've never tried Frosts's books that I've been meaning to, seeing how popular they are.

Stephanie: It's funny because I actually thought of you specifically when I came across those two books. I guess I've become really familiar with your taste in books.

Okay, now this has brought to my attention some books starting new series and new series I wasn't aware of until now. Thanks!

Not a whole lot on this list that sounds grabbing. That's a bit of a disappointment but good too since so many other great books came out last month and earlier this month that I'm still working though. I can wait.

I've fallen behind on the Shannara series and now another is out! Oh No!

I'm a new follower:)

♥ Melissa @ Melissa's Eclectic Bookshelf

Welcome Melissa, and thanks for following me :) I've also completely fallen behind on the Shannara books and was surprised to see that there are still new ones coming out. I guess that means that the evil guy was never vanquished. Oh well. Perhaps I'll wait until he's finally taken care of and then read that book.
